The Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program is a 12-hour course that is divided into 4 units. You can attend in either a group or private setting. The group sessions are taught over two full days. Private sessions can be more flexible. If you are unable to attend face-to-face classes, there is also the option of online through Microsoft Teams or you can purchase the Hypnobubs Online Hypnobirthing course with options for a private session with Maxii. 

Hypnobirthing classes are structured in such a way that the birth partner is encouraged to attend. The partner’s support throughout pregnancy and during birth provide valuable reassurance and bonding in preparation for the birth of your baby and journey into parenthood. 

Each class is made up of theory (audio-visual, spoken explanations and interactive discussions) and practical (active relaxation and breathing exercises, hands-on massage techniques and hypnosis practice) components.

The Empowered Birth Preparation course is a 1-day workshop specifically designed for you and your birth partner to learn all about the birth process, comfort techniques for labour and birth as well as birth positions, breathing techniques and mindset work. This course has been created to be the perfect blend of a hospital and wholistic birth class, leaving you and your birth partner informed, empowered and excited for birth. 

The Empowered Birth Preparation class can be completed as a 1-day face to face class held in Emerald QLD or can be completed online via Microsoft Teams over 4 evening sessions.

Why do I teach the Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program?

Because growing up I believed birth was scary and painful.

Because I felt like a deer in headlights trying to navigate my pregnancy.

Because I didn’t know my options.

Because of the “I wish someone told me”.

Since becoming a mother and birthing my three children, my world has been shaken. Giving birth was not the painful and traumatic experience I was led to believe; it was incredible. 

Why has the beauty of birth been kept such a secret? Why isn’t it portrayed as powerful and women friggin’ goddesses? Why are women so keen to share their hardships of birth like it’s some kind of competition? Why are we so conditioned to believe that we need medical interventions to birth our babies? Why are the increased risks to interventions never seen as a problem, yet women are shamed if they decline suggestions from their medical team? Why are women afraid of birth?

So why do I teach the Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program?

Because I am passionate about educating and supporting women and their birth partners about the process of birth, and how they can work together to achieve their idea of a positive birth.

Because I want to be a positive influence for you and your partner. I want you both to be excited to birth your baby. The birth of your baby should be one of the best days of your life. You should feel excited, loved, happy, joyful, not scared, fearful, in pain.  

Because I want to empower you to know your options. If you don’t know them, you have none. Knowledge is power. The decisions you make during your pregnancy and birth should be made by you and what is best for you and your baby.

Because I want you to have the innate trust and connection with your body and baby and know that you are perfectly designed to birth. Birth is a physiological event, just like breathing… and we breath without thinking every day. When we birth, we need to trust our body and work with the sensations to bring our baby, not to be frightened of them.

Because 1 in 4 women leave their birth experience with trauma and this breaks my heart. Birth is the beginning of new life, a new baby, a new family and new parents. It should be a beautiful time where you look back on it and see it as a positive life-changing experience, not a negative one.

What is Hypnobirthing? 

Hypnobirthing is a comprehensive childbirth education method that prepares women and their birthing partners to experience a positive, calm and gentle birth. During hypnobirthing classes, you will learn effective, evidence-based techniques in a well-thought-out program of deep relaxation, visualisation, and self-hypnosis. All of these are designed to assist you to achieve a positive and empowering birth experience.

When should I book in a Hypnobirthing class? 

You can begin hypnobirthing at any point during your pregnancy. However, the optimal time is between 20 and 30 weeks of your pregnancy. This gives you plenty of time to practice self-hypnosis, relaxation and other techniques to experience a calm and positive birth. If you are further along in your pregnancy, there may be a class or private option for you. Please contact Maxii directly if you would like more information.

Who attends the Hypnobirthing class with me? 

It is strongly encouraged that your birth partner/support person attends the classes with you. Your birth partner can be your partner, mother, sister, doula, friend – whomever you feel will be your best support throughout your pregnancy and birth. If your partner works away and cannot be with you in person for the course, please contact Maxii for further class options. However, you are also welcome to come solo if you prefer.  

How is the birth partner involved? 

The birth support person can be an integral part of the hypnobirthing experience. He or she practices with the mother in helping to prepare for deep relaxation. During labour the support person guides the labouring mother through hypnosis prompts, relaxation techniques, deepening methods, and visualisations, provides comfort measures, and joins in welcoming the new baby. 

Will I be unconscious, or will I remember my birth experience? 

Despite misconceptions and misinformation, you are conscious and aware during self-hypnosis. A Hypnobirthing mother may be deeply relaxed but is also active in the labour process.

Will hypnobirthing be useful to me if I don’t want a vaginal birth or if circumstances necessitate medical intervention or a caesarean birth? 

Absolutely. The tools and techniques you learn in your hypnobirthing classes will help you to learn relaxation skills that will be useful to both you and your baby, regardless of your birth experience. In the event that medical intervention of any sort is needed, you will find yourself better able to remain calm and in control.
